Speech Connections, Seacoast is dedicated to providing quality speech and language services to clients of all ages including children, adolescents, and adults.
Assessment: Ms. Lister provides a quality diagnostic approach that includes time spent with the child, adolescent or adult where best practice is applied to choice of assessment tools, and diagnostic plan. Each client receives an individual assessment which targets their own needs and can include a video-taped portion for later analysis. Assessments vary in length and an estimate is provided to the parent/client prior to the initial assessment process. Information regarding early development, prior assessments, information from medical or educational personnel are included in each assessment if applicable. A written report is provided and a time for review of the report is included in each assessment process. This allows the parent or client time to review the report, ask questions, and respond to the suggestions for treatment.
Intervention: Ms. Lister develops a plan of intervention that is tailored to meet the needs of each individual client. For preschoolers, parents are often invited to be part of the session so that skills are developed with the family assisting and carrying out the intervention in the home and community settings. For adolescents and adults, their input is valued and an important part of the treatment plan and often increases the success of the client because they are invested in the process and motivated to reach their goals. Ms. Lister uses a variety of fun activities, games, skits, role plays and crafts to sustain interest and maximize the success of intervention so that progress is accelerated maximally. Treatment sessions are generally one hour in length, however shorter sessions are possible if this fits with the needs of your child and into the schedule for services.
